PJD - Rumours
Award winning Midlands DJ PJD Chan who has djs around the finest clubs of Nottingham and Leicester including Isis, Faces, Media, Creation, Kudos etc, has exploded into the scene with his new album Rumours.
Singed up to VIP records, he has produced his second bhangra album following his first album AWOL. The album. From not knowing what to expect, I was impressed with this 8 Track album.
Jagmohans Track Reviews
‘Gidhe Wich Tu Nachdi’ is the first main track, vocals by Gurinder Ginda who isn’t as well known yet, but he wont be for long – an Excellent vocalist. This track is catchy, with a catchy giddha beat. A good track as they have kept it simple, which get encouraged with the wicked vocals.
Track one ‘Tere Ote Dil Ageya’, Starts of with Lember which is one of the main tracks of the album. This is a track which grows on you the more you hear it. The track has a Kray Twin sample from their forthcoming track. There is also a tumbi loop used throughout the track which complements it, and also impropriates MC Hydro.
This track is what the Zee music vid track.
Next is ‘Dhol Janiya’ which uses an old manak sample (which will be hard to recognize, unless you are a true manak fan) and again uses lembers vocals. The manak sample makes it sound oldschool with the tabla playing along side it. A Chilling tune.
'Boliyan' could have been better, which is again a Lember tune, which has variety tho, as it has loads of lember tracks resung and put together. There are basic samples through out this track. The dhol beat at the start kicks the track off.
‘Punjabi Tere Dhol’ is next, and I like the beat on this one. There is no percussion to be found on it, but it puts variety on the album. A lot of Drum beats through out this track and unique bass lines. Although the beat is good, I don’t feel like it matches the vocals fully… and there are some strange sample noises in the track.
Now the track called ‘Aaja Nach Le’ isn’t that special in terms of its production, a basic collection of percussion dhol/dhad, but the flute makes it sound out, as flutes do in all bhangra tracks.
‘Dil Varda’ kicks in with a low pitched tumbi, which kicks into Jaswant Heera vocals, and the beats keep on increasing in this track, from bass lines to dhol beats to sick flutes.
A Chilling song and complimentary song which is due to the vocalist Jaswant Heera. He is about to blow up.
'Lal Doria' starts of with a catchy fluty sample which kicks into a clever beat PJD incorporated before Lember sings the track. You can get a feel that the vocals do not 100% fit onto this beat, and I feel that he could have done a better job. The flute sample kicks in and out throughout the vocals which is excellent.
This track is one of 2 instrumentals on the album, 'Classic meets funk' which is a uk garage track which reminds me of the garage tunes of the past. There are algozey samples, hard drum kicks and snares, and some female vocals here and there. This is not a bhangra track, but a garage one, but puts variety to the album.
The final track isn’t anything new, it is just an instrumental track of ‘Punjabi Tere Dhol’ Something for you bedroom DJs to play about with.
Overall this album is alright, I wouldn’t say Brilliant. PJD has done better from his first album A.W.O.L.. There are good use of vocals on this album and they have introduced a sick new vocalist to the scene who will get bigger.
I've given album this 6/10.
